#Details

The #MeToo movement has perhaps been the greatest social phenomenon in recent memory. Its undisputed power has meant countless women have felt the strength to address abuse and systemic inequality where it once went ignored. But it’s not perfect.

While many acknowledge that feminism isn’t really feminism unless it’s intersectional, the fact is that many women of colour do not feel adequately represented in the #MeToo movement. Likewise, trans women/non-binary/women working in niche sectors of the industry – for instance, heavy metal – don’t have their stories heard as broadly as those who hail from more popular scenes.

This panel will tease out the issues that people of various backgrounds and experiences have within the music industry and look at what everyone can do to secure a more equitable and understanding working environment for all.
